Stories of Impact

Chain Breaking

We regularly watch families struggle to keep their heads above water in terms of
finances when it comes time for Christmas and Birthdays with their children.
There’s an internal struggle to cave on the budget and just “have fun with it” …
until the reality sets in of what has happened again. However, this week we got to
witness a completely different story from a family in Faith and Finances. This
couple has been attending together which has really built their communication,
and their marriage. One of their children has a birthday coming up and requested
a trip to Chuck E. Cheeses. That’s not currently planned into the budget. Instead
of shuffling money and hoping for the best, the parents had a conversation with
their child about this decision. The answer is “not yet”. They talked with their
child about the fact that they do have money, however it must be used for bills,
like having a house to live in, food to eat, etc. Since there is no money set aside
for this event to happen now, they talked as a family about how they can plan for
this and begin to set money aside for a future trip keeping within their goals.

This brings the parents together, helps the kids begin to understand the power of
planning with your money for the things you need and want. We talk a lot about
feeling stuck in financial situations, and that ongoing mindset. What we are witnessing here is
the breaking of those chains into financial freedom, not only for these parents, but
their children and generations to come, because they are thinking and
approaching finances differently!!! Praise God!
