New Beginnings

We were contacted by a local community agency regarding a family that they were working with. They were trying to navigate services for a Ukrainian family. Housing was needed. The family was living with their host family which was a complete blessing- however, the space in the home for both families was only suitable for short term and it had already been two months. The family was able to speak some English, however it was not working well communicating with this agency. We set up a time for the family to come in person so that we could get to know them and gather more information. We knew that we could use google translate as a solution for communication. Imagine our surprise when they arrived with a family member who happens to speak both languages fluently! We had a fabulous conversation with them all (their English was actually quite good considering they learned it after arrival). We provided a landlord sheet of names and numbers to call for housing and also reached out to some additional contacts with churches. Two days later they reached out to say that they found a house!!! We were then able to work with several churches to mobilize their gap ministries. Things like furniture, kitchen items, Basket of Blessing, and even linens! This family has connected with a local church that they are now attending Sunday School and Service regularly. The church continues to navigate ways to support the family such as piano lessons and desks for the children. Whatever it takes to help them feel loved…like this is their home away from home. The way God orchestrated all of these connections was amazing.

  • We needed a good relationship with the community agency to reach out when they were at the end of options with communication difficulties.
  • This family would not have been able to visit/speak with all of these churches on their own initially.

They were already very busy working on getting children in school, all the paperwork the USA needed for them to be here, and completing work permits hoping that they can be employed during their possible 1-2 year stay here.

It’s been a long difficult journey of why they needed to leave and come here…and all that was involved in that, but they give God all credit and all glory for where they are now. 🙂
